BLOOM | the story

From early on in his childhood, music has always been a vital part of Owen's life. Throughout the instability of his early memories, he found comfort and relief in listening to his favorite songs. He learned his first instrument at just 8 years old by sitting down at his family's piano and teaching himself chord progressions he would find on YouTube.

He later grew up to sing in choirs and learn acoustic guitar on his own. And at around the age of 13, he found his main passion: music production.

After years of trial and error, and many failed songwriting attempts, Owen created a song he was the proudest of yet, called "crazy for you." An acoustic ballad about unrecipricated feelings - a lesson he was far too young to have learned.

At around the age 15 in 2023, he met Andrea Murgallis.

 

Also born and raised in the bay area of California, Andrea grew up with a strong presence of music in her life. She grew up collecting vinyls, singing songs, and playing any instrument she could lay her hands on.

Eventually, she went on to learn piano, guitar, and drums.

Expressing herself was always something important to Andrea, in fact she could do it through just about any art form. In addition to music, she learned to paint, draw, and photograph from early on, and just recently graduated school with her major in studio arts. 

 

By the second time of seeing each other, Andrea and Owen had already written their first song, named "dilemma." Amazed at how similar their life experiences proved to be, they agreed to start a band and write an album together about their shared experiences. Owen later created the name BLOOM, which symbolized growth and change; which was exactly what they had hoped to capture for the album as well as a band name. The first song they completed was "digest," a co-wriiten project by the both of them. And although picking up the pen and writing how they felt wasn't something new to the duo, putting it out into the world and for their family and friends to hear was. After digest's release, it went on to accumulate dozens of thousands of streams, and peaked at #5 on all folk releases on Spotify for that day.

BLOOM later created and released the alternative rock song "inevitable" about the fears of growing up, and ever since then have been finishing their debut album "bloom" including tracks such as crazy for you, dilemma, digest, inevitable and more. Every song they work on is 100% written, recorded, and produced by Owen and Andrea from Owens bedroom in San Jose California. Follow along to see more of BLOOM's journey.
